A BBQ Fit for a Princess
On Saturday the 20th of July, Age Concern Southend hosted a family bbq at the Saxon King, Southend.
The morning of the event there was heavy rain and thunderstorms but the Age Concern team were undeterred and set off to the Saxon King anyway to set up for music, fundraising games and our special guest, the rose princess, from The Princess Emporium.
Luckily for us the sun came out at 2pm and stayed for the rest of the afternoon, with the sun cracking the pavements by late afternoon. Over 60 people attended and after enjoying some delicious bbq food, everyone took part in our fundraising games and raffles. The highlight of the afternoon was the arrival of the Rose Princess who in full character and dress, entertained the little ones with singing, dancing and games.
It was a lovely afternoon with something for all age groups.
We raised almost £270 from the summer bbq, an extra special thank you to the team at the Saxon King for being so accomodating even when it looked like the event might be a wash out!
